  1. They look like the nice fat hips of Rosa rugosa. Lovely!

    • I only have one small plant which struggles to survive, but it does produce a few hips each year.
I think you got my pun too – rugosus meaning wrinkled.

      • Yes, but it took me a minute or two to work it out!

        • I knew you would get it – good gardeners are usually classical scholars and botanists by default.

  2. Hopefully I will have some of those next year too!

    • I’m sure you will – probably enough for gallons of syrup when they start rampaging through your garden!

      • You are filling me with a sense of foreboding, Christine….

        • I did try to hint that R.rugosa can have thuggish tendencies. It produces runners which seem can wander a considerable distance and if not controlled can be invasive. It’s not too bad if they appear in the grass then they can just be mown, but elsewhere can create problems. There may be cultivars which are better behaved. It is a lovely rose and I wouldn’t be without it, but it has been planted by the road in a spot where it can be contained.

          • Oh the hint was noted, but they were already ordered at that point 😉 I have ordered Alba, Agnes and Hansa

          • I am sure you are a match for any garden thug!
